RED RIVER AIKIDO

At Red River Aikido, we're all about movement, connection, and keeping things real on the mat.

Aikido teaches you how to move with intention, stay calm under pressure, and connect with others (often by tossing them across the mat). Whether you're here to get stronger, blow off steam, or just roll around with some great people, you'll find a welcoming crew and a rewarding practice.

We are dedicated to the practice of Aikikai style Aikido, under the direction of the Canadian Aikido Association and Hombu Dojo.

INSTRUCTOR

Shea Koch has been practicing Aikido for over 20 years and received his 5th dan in 2024.

He began his training in Winnipeg under Tom Czyczko before moving to Tokyo, where he earned his Shodan (black belt) at the world headquarters, Hombu Dojo. During his time in Japan, Shea also taught and trained at Pacific Aikido for three years.

After returning to Winnipeg, he spent several years instructing at the University of Manitoba. In 2024, he became the head instructor at Red River Aikido, where he now trains with a fantastic group of students and instructors.

Shea continues his study of Aikido through regular training visits to Hombu Dojo in Tokyo and by attending CAA seminars led by Hind Shihan. His goal is to keep learning, keep growing, and help others do the same.
